Inside the Simit
Today I gave a seminar at the chemistry department of Istanbul Technical University by the title 'Inside the Simit: A tale of Cyclodextrins and Polymer'. Cyclodextrins in fact resemble the shape of the tradition Turkish bagel!
It was my first form of public engagement and, although I still have no results to show, it was really exciting to see people in the audience engage with NPC and how cyclodextrin-based therapy can help the treatment of the condition.
In the audience there was even a Turkish-German lady from the German Niemann-Pick Disease Association who had heard through the grapevine about the seminar and wanted to listen about the project. It was amazing for me to connect for the first time with someone whose life has been directly affected by the condition.
I feel energised and I cannot wait to get back into the lab to continue my project
